Song For Now

I’ve been banging on my piano out the window
Like a Gatsby waiting
Across the liquid highway of lighted smooth walkways
To your doorway that I didn’t know existed (as yours)
Until a few weeks ago

A difficult Daisy, you don’t seem to mind waiting a
Few centuries for us to get together again
Ha!
I’m not gonna wait
That long (for the record)
But for now I’ll bang and play away
And you won’t hear it
The high way’ll soak up the leftovers
The neighbors will get the brunt

But that’s ok, I’m pretty good and they might like my music
You might too…
If only you’d try it out for size
Longer than one night
One night stands don’t quite stand in my world
Liquid fun, temporal gauzy and even special yes
But I’m playing for more

The open door that doesn’t shut
Based on life experience
Money
Height (ha!)
Age
Destination

For now, just for now
My heart is mostly yours
A new thing, this giving away to a stranger
I was used to someone else but but…for now
Well, you’ll do for my dreaming and playing
For this one quick second of a few weeks of a lifetime
It might be yours

You don’t know or care, so for now
I’ll play on and on and wring it on out
I’m playing for you

You’ll hear if you stop just short of going all the way home
Its’ okay if you don’t, if you roam
Just know that I’ll return the distance and move on
But now
For now
My piano is banging a midnight air
A midnight cool air
Just outside my windowsill around the corner from my front door
Under the pine tree where we kissed
It’s hanging on upside down this music and it’s drifting
And going away
Down the line
Toward a summer air

But for now it’s yours
